Changing Seasons
Last week of this stuff. Starting some new small projects this week.
Waiting for fall, I want to make another little film. I hope by the beginning of October time will free up. Also I want to go to Disneyland, I just really like running around in a sweater while it's slightly chilly and oogling all the Halloween decorations.

Space Unicorn
A few months ago, Parry Gripp emailed me asking for a music video. Lucky! I was really excited since I'm a big fan of his music and videos. It was a little difficult to think of a way to make Space Unicorn different from Neon Pegasus, ( I love that one too!)

Playing in Photoshop
The past few weeks, I've felt useless with any art I've been making. I probably need a vacation or something. Recently, after getting home from work, I've been messing around in photoshop, just letting my brain wander.
Made this using the lasso tool and paint bucket. Just needed to get the 80's toys out of my system. I want to move onto my own characters again.
The animation timeline in Photoshop is interesting, I want to keep working with it. Here are a few animated gifs, it doesn't seem possible to keep consistent timing on various browsers?
Almost forgot, the "Red X" short that I boarded aired last weekend. Here's some board panels that were cut for time and the fact that I don't know what I'm doing.

Amethyst of Gemworld

WB Animation approved me to share this clip with you.
To clear up the confusion over this part of the DC Nation commercial:
She is getting a short. I am working with a group of fantastic people to put this together.
I animated the clip on short notice, and color help came from Claire Lenth, video composite from Will Feng.
It's been rewarding and a lot of fun to work with such a great team. Later in 2012 you'll get to see our efforts!
Thanks for all the support over the years. I never thought I'd get a chance to work on something so magical.
(Oh and the Titans shorts are coming. Super excited about that. I've been working quadruple time lately, XD)

Romance and Hotdogs
Since this is the week of romance and I forgot to draw anything anti-romantic, here is something old.
It is from the year 2000, and involves romance, hotdogs, and a date at the movies. It was drawn in pencil and crayon (oh I thought I was being a clever 19 year old! Ha.) It is horrible, horrible, horrible, but appropriate for Valentine's Day!
I tried looking for my old storyboards and sketches, but thankfully they are mostly hidden away in a dark basement in Washington State. I found some xeroxes.

A calendar I made for myself and friends so we'd get our films turned in on time! (I totally finished on the 15th, but worked thru spring break missing a trip to Japan. Stupid, stupid!)
The film was colored with crayons I stole from restaurants in Valencia, CA. Mostly the macaroni and cheese crayola. I got this one when a bunch of us went to Macaroni Grill for Easter. They have fancy crayolas there. And diarrhea.
I kept them in this fancy Elmo tin my Grandma Pat had sent me full of cookies!
I had to pull the film from an old VHS. I'm pretty sure my Jaz drive still works, I dropped the stupid thing down the stairs multiple times. I think it's a vampire. Alot of people had to buy multiple drives because they kept dying. Even if mine still works, the technology is outdated. I don't know how to get the files off, they're Targa anyway. The CD I had of everything burned on just confuses my computers. I have a couple of DVD rams sitting around too. Hate those things
Here is my stupid maquette I made in Ranjo's class. It is dirty.

My sophomore year, one of the seniors was leaving fake tickets for people on their desks. I found this with all my crappy xeroxes.
Current stuffs. Been drawing mostly large muscled men at work, so I don't feel too bad about doodling a bunch of stupid girls.
I drew the angel in the middle while listening to Origa's version of "There Must be an Angel"

Eating babies is not COOOOOOL!
Lots of anxiety this week, not necessarily bad. This week is my last week of work. Who knows what will be next, but I have some other stuff I need to finish up anyway, so a small break would be welcome. Anyway, here's some stuff, from towards the end of 2009. I should try to draw guys next time, instead of drawing stupid girls.
Post-It Palooooooooza!
A girl who is too cool to be anyone's friend, so her best friend is her green jacket.
Hot pink girl that everyone has drawn at some point in time.
Little fuzzy alien doesn't realize that the Space Trooper girl who just saved his life from a giant glob monster does not want to be his friend. You should have seen the epic battle, too bad I didn't draw that.
Yeah, I said no more fanart in 2010, but this was technically drawn in 2009! (some of that stuff drawn in 2009 wasn't actually fanart.)
Here is some freelance stuff. I made my first mouth chart ever for this guy, I did not design him. I also made a crappy dialogue video for overseas reference, this isn't done very well, but this line has had me cracking up all summer. He was in a cartoon Friday night. (I don't think eating babies in real life is cool at all. Cartoon alien poop babies is another matter.)
I'm going to try taking art classes this year. Need all the help I can get.

I've been really busy this summer. I started a new job, storyboarding. Which is funny because my old classmates remember how much I sucked at in college. It's alot of fun, alot of work, and I'm learning a ton of new things!
My time right now is pretty much divided between that and helping good friends with two different weddings! (The first was just last weekend, it was lovely! Congrats you two! Soon there will be many Valoda babies.) The next is one is on Halloween, which will also be extremely awesome!
There are also two personal projects I need to focus on, so it might not be until Winter when I can post again. Fanart for now, because it is not related to anything I can't post.

The following artwork is from "Secret of Mana". It's now downloadable for the Wii. It's the first RPG I ever played, and I still love it. Up to three people can play at the same time. When game magazines started printing screenshots of Chrono Trigger, I thought it was the sequel to Mana, since two of the main characters look really similar to Chrono and Marle.
Also, there was a game magazine that was having an awesome contest back in the day. The prize was an animation cel from the animated commercial. I didn't win, does anybody remember that? Was anyone lucky enough to get one? Here is the commercial in German, it was in English too. Did anybody out there get to work on it?
This was for an Autumn Society show back in August. It has a round frame with little metal flowers.
The rest isn't fanart.
Back in July, I went with friends and had fondue for the first time! Yummy!
Here are two silhouettes of the projects I'm working on. One is a book, and the illustrations need to be finished before winter. Both have been on the blog before, one of them was on accident. Ha ha, hoo boy.....
The other character is from a seven minute animatic I pitched last fall, for a shorts program. I couldn't find work, and my friends were very supportive with me pitching. The characters were from way back in 2005, that I'd been working on for awhile. I didn't expect to make it that far, and even though it didn't make it thru, I'm still going to try to finish it by next summer. My friends have been very helpful, so we are going to try to finish it together.
This was animated on a friend's cintiq just as a test, using Flash. There is some cel shading even, but it didn't help the stiff and clunky animation. :P Making the animatic was good, it helped me get story boarding work, since I had to board out the short myself. So thank you again guys! :) Also old tired Dell computer, didn't know you had it in you!
Also, Skippy is still as helpful as ever.
Oh! Before I forget, the "Transformers Animated: The Allspark Almanac" came out. It is a massive book full of ruff and clean character, prop, and bg designs from the show. There aren't alot of books on specific animated shows in English, and this might be useful for anyone interested in animated television production. Also, Skippy is in it! You can buy the book at Amazon.
