Barf kitties I drew when my eyes were dilated last month. German Shepard outside the coffee shop today. He had a squeaky hedgehog, that he had to share with everyone entering and leaving. :)
Here is a video to torture my Dad. He watched this with me 3000 times when I was a wee child. He still curses at the mention of "Strawberry Shortcake" to this very day.
I like this. My Dad just told me he hates the Purple Pieman, and every time they would add a new character, because that would mean more crap around the house.
Last week was pretty positive! Kinda weird, if 2008 hadn't sucked so bad, this past week wouldn't have been so good... XP Drawings!
A coworker found nothing humorous or entertaining about these kittens. :P Power Girl is very brave. Very brave indeed.
I really like this song.
*****I had some recent trouble with my webmail! I lost some messages I haven't had a chance to reply to (I've been really slowwww -_-!!!) One that I know I lost was from a girl who sent me some of her sketches. I'm really sorry, I don't have your email to reply, please email me again! Eep!!!! <:O
I want to go to bed, and not turn on my Dell that is still hooked up to my scanner and all that jazz. So these weird things are going up instead. Back in 2006 I was asked along with some other artists to design a potential mascot for the Chinese World's Fair. I never heard more about it after I pooped these drawings out, but I remember I named the fish "Pearl". She wears glasses, cause fish should wear protective eye wear to keep their eye balls from popping out. Oh, and the bug thing has bicycle shaped glasses. Yupz. More lameness next week probably. Toodles. P.S. I dedicate this post to the Chinese Spammer Bots.
My Mom sent me a vhs tape of a really bad film I made when I was 17. It was part Senior High school graduation project and college/scholarship portfolio. It was made with a JVC camcorder that could shoot on something close to 8 frames a second. It had to be shot in one take, and then the sound was re-recorded over the vhs. It is horrible, but it was so long ago and if I hadn't made it I wouldn't be getting to do what I get to do today. So thanks Mom for investing in the camcorder. Happy Early Mother's Day! Song: "The Puppy Song", written by Harry Nilsson, sung by Victoria Williams
...and here's an old drawing from 2006 'cause I'm too tired to make something new and not secret this week.
"Billie the Unicorn" is a book I've been working on the last few years. It's 33 pages of unicorns, flowers, corn, bees, and some other stuff all drawn in old-school marker on animation paper.
It'll be out in Spring of 2011, and will be published by Immedium. I'm super excited that it's actually happening, it's been tough finding a subject that I'd want to illustrate for 33 pages. Billie was originally created for "The Unicorn Show" at Gallery Nucleus back in 2006, and I never felt that Billie and her cousins should be stuck on those solitary post-its forever. She's changed a lot over the years, and her story is one I think alot of artists migrating away from their comfort zones will relate too. There's also a bit of hodge podge from my senior film in college, and I'm hoping to do a little animation with Billie eventually. Depends on how full time work goes. So in the meantime, if anyone is interested in updates, please join the Billie page on Facebook. I promise not to spam too much.
My publisher is also being very supportive, so please check them out and their awesome books!
I randomly noticed yesterday that my blog is five years old today. It seems like the past five years have gone by fast, but this blog makes me realize how many things have happened in those five years. I started it when I was working my first in-house animation job, with people who already had years of experience. I have had close friends drift away, and gotten to know others like family, watch them get married, have babies, and have met wonderful people online in person. The blog was mostly started to keep my family up to date with daily going-ons, and to start being more open about my artwork. Also, it makes me feel old. Yay! Who knows where we will all be in five years, probably in good places and spirits!
So I had to draw a horsey thing for something at work. Which led to the desire to draw a pegasus for fun.
The next two images were ones I was saving for an upcoming sketchbook app, but since they were drawn on small post-its I'm worried they might look really bad for zooming in. So here's some stuff that's been hoarded for awhile. The bunny is actually from 2009, when I was on "Brave and the Bold". ______________ Super special secret add on!!! I was going to wait a couple of weeks to announce this, but the press release is already online. Won't you be a friend of Immedium to keep up with the updates? :D (click it already!!)
Finishing up some super fun freelance and fun stuff at work, then back to my personal projects soon! So excited! Anyway, here are some random scribblings that aren't work related from the last couple of months. Things are crazy!
________ Just found out my "Soul Mates" piece from "The Last Unicorn Show" is going to a happy home and a hardcore unicorn fan. Yay!!! _____ Almost forgot, here's a song I over-listened to this week. The album is on iTunes. Heavenly Star-Genki Rockets
"The Last Unicorn Art Show", Friday, April 16th, 7pm-11pm at the Tattoo Factory Gallery located at 4443 N. Broadway in Chicago. A full artist list and movie screening schedule can be found at thelastunicornartshow.blogspot.com I really wish I could go to this in person. Peter S. Beagle is going to be there, and I'm sure there is going to be alot of cool artwork for this. There's also going to be a screening of the movie with a Q and A with Mr. Beagle. Chicago peoples are so lucky!
I did two pieces, the next three images go in one frame:
This is from the short story "Two Hearts" that followed up the original book. It's a bit of a spoiler, but I wanted to try to draw something without the pressure of the look of the movie.
And here are the pieces in their purdy frames. The three small drawings are actually bigger unframed, in case anyone decides they want it.
Sketches. I was really hoping to eventually draw Sooz, but this is as far as I got.
Some random unicorn drawings from ages ago. I was saving them for a sketchbook, but that isn't happening, not in paper form anyway. Check back later. Orange kitty drawn with a special brush marker that Tara gave me! For secret Red Bull drawing, go HERE!
Skippy is hiding his pot o' gold under his pot o' belly. Disclaimer: He is not really a leperchaun, he has no concept of St. Patrick's Day in general. One of my cousin's has his birthday on St. Patty's, so early happy bday to you, allll the way in Japan.
Here is a musician I found the other day. She has happy music, and here is a fan video someone made for one of her songs. Rachel Goodrich- Light Bulb
I'm super insano busy, so here are some important videos!
The first one is "Ghost Chef"! Two of my friends were involved in the creation of this amazing looking game. Steph Laberis designed it, and powerhouse animator Abby Goldsmith animated it!!! Anyone with an XBox is a lucky dog, with the chance to help little ghosties cook monstrous atrocities in the kitchen!
------------------- Now it is time for cat videos. It is always time for cat videos. Enjoy the cats, for they enjoy YOU.
We were watching the Ninja Turtle movies from the early 90's during lunch break at work. We made it thru "Secret of the Ooze", and it was decided we would not be able to survive watching the third movie. Thus one of the drawings below. I've been busy. Do I even need to explain myself anymore? Today was weird. I got a headache, but I think it was a good day today. I got a milkshake with mint cookies in it. Delicious.
I like this song. "Dance, dance, dance, words can never make up for what you do."
So Mr. Chris Battle has tagged me for a Kreative Blogger award, which is silly, but a good way to pimp out some friends! In turn, I have to nominate seven other bloggers, and then list seven weird things about myself. So here goes:
I have some creepy friends! :O Now seven useless things about me.
1. I use the mouse backwards. Everyone who uses the computer after me hates me when I do this. 2. Eyeballs creep me out. 3. I wanted to be either a marine biologist or an animator when I was little. Then I realized that drawing dolphins was pretty fun, and that took care of that decision. 4. I used to teach pottery classes to grade schoolers when I was in high school. 5. My Dad really does grow potatoes for a living. 6. I'm mildly allergic to cats, but I don't care. 7. I didn't realize Walt Disney was dead until I was about 10. I'm still stupid.
Oh, real quick! I've been listening to Eisley again. Every song they sing is lovely.
Since this is the week of romance and I forgot to draw anything anti-romantic, here is something old. It is from the year 2000, and involves romance, hotdogs, and a date at the movies. It was drawn in pencil and crayon (oh I thought I was being a clever 19 year old! Ha.) It is horrible, horrible, horrible, but appropriate for Valentine's Day!
I tried looking for my old storyboards and sketches, but thankfully they are mostly hidden away in a dark basement in Washington State. I found some xeroxes. A drawing full of tangents!! Hamsters drawn on a Wendy's napkin!! A calendar I made for myself and friends so we'd get our films turned in on time! (I totally finished on the 15th, but worked thru spring break missing a trip to Japan. Stupid, stupid!) The film was colored with crayons I stole from restaurants in Valencia, CA. Mostly the macaroni and cheese crayola. I got this one when a bunch of us went to Macaroni Grill for Easter. They have fancy crayolas there. And diarrhea. I kept them in this fancy Elmo tin my Grandma Pat had sent me full of cookies! I had to pull the film from an old VHS. I'm pretty sure my Jaz drive still works, I dropped the stupid thing down the stairs multiple times. I think it's a vampire. Alot of people had to buy multiple drives because they kept dying. Even if mine still works, the technology is outdated. I don't know how to get the files off, they're Targa anyway. The CD I had of everything burned on just confuses my computers. I have a couple of DVD rams sitting around too. Hate those things Here is my stupid maquette I made in Ranjo's class. It is dirty. Skippy finds him delicious. My sophomore year, one of the seniors was leaving fake tickets for people on their desks. I found this with all my crappy xeroxes.
Current stuffs. Been drawing mostly large muscled men at work, so I don't feel too bad about doodling a bunch of stupid girls. I drew the angel in the middle while listening to Origa's version of "There Must be an Angel"
