The Last Unicorn Art Show

"The Last Unicorn Art Show", Friday, April 16th, 7pm-11pm at the Tattoo Factory Gallery located at 4443 N. Broadway in Chicago.
A full artist list and movie screening schedule can be found at thelastunicornartshow.blogspot.com
I really wish I could go to this in person. Peter S. Beagle is going to be there, and I'm sure there is going to be alot of cool artwork for this. There's also going to be a screening of the movie with a Q and A with Mr. Beagle. Chicago peoples are so lucky!

I did two pieces, the next three images go in one frame:

This is from the short story "Two Hearts" that followed up the original book. It's a bit of a spoiler, but I wanted to try to draw something without the pressure of the look of the movie.

And here are the pieces in their purdy frames. The three small drawings are actually bigger unframed, in case anyone decides they want it.

Sketches.

I was really hoping to eventually draw Sooz, but this is as far as I got.

Some random unicorn drawings from ages ago. I was saving them for a sketchbook, but that isn't happening, not in paper form anyway. Check back later.

Orange kitty drawn with a special brush marker that Tara gave me!

Wow what beautiful pieces! I never seen the movie, but my storyboard teacher from SVA, Irra Verbisky (hope I spelled that right)worked on that film.!

Darn; I don't know that story, but sounds super interesting and magical! I love your animal drawings... such great character and anatomy to your horses! :)

Please be careful. If these had been even the slightest bit more wonderful my brain would have melted.

Ahh...so pretty, Brianne...I love the 3 all framed together.

What is Sooz? That drawing is really lovely!

James- Whoa that's cool your teacher worked on this. I thought most of it had been done overseas.
I really like that movie, there is some horrible singing at the end!

Rocky- You've never seen the "Last Unicorn"? The latest hard bound edition has "Two Hearts" printed in the back, but I think the story is on Beagle's website.

Katie- Sooz is a little girl in "Two Hearts" that must go find the king to take out a griffin who's been snacking on children in her village! The whole story is thru her eyes. She's quite plucky, and she has a large pet dog!

The triple illo piece is the only art I've done in a long time I've wanted to keep. I feel like a jerk!

I love these sooooooooooo much!
they are the opposite of Mia Farrow's singing.
you have such perfect draftsmanship.

who is the ghost girl in the corner of the one above the orange kitty?

The sketch and the blue girl where an attempt at drawing the same girl. She's supposed to be some sort of unicorn girl thing. I think I might have another drawing of her somewhere, but all my paper is in a huge pile up on my desk.

I had no idea this show was going on!

How I wish I could make it! Chicago is a bit far. :(

Love your pieces for the show. Do you know if there is going to be an artbook of the work from the show or a place online where some of the pieces may be viewed? (or a list of the artists?)

The triple framed images are so beautiful -- Lir and Amalthea are adorable! -- and your illustration of "Two Hearts" is both lovely and heartbreaking. Wonderful work! Best of luck with The Last Unicorn Art Show! :)

Amy- It'll probably just be for the iPhone or iPad. I'm finishing up the last drawing for it now. XD

Valerie- The links on the right of thelastunicornartshow.blogspot.com are the blogs/sites of the artists participating in the show, some of them have posted artwork.
I see that Megan Smithyman, one of the artists in the show posted her beautiful Unicornasaurus along with other pieces at kidrobot . That thread might have more art soon. I don't think there will be a book for the show, Jeremy Scheuch is the curator, you can contact him here, to let him know you are excited about the show! :D

Emma- Thank you! "Two Hearts" was really touching! I got teary while reading it.

Wonderful stuff as usual! I've yet to get around to reading Two Hearts, so you'll have to forgive my unabashed ignoring of the last image of the set. But the other pieces are wonderful. Makes me want to see the movie again...or read the book again...or maybe both!

Awful singing, yes, so much so that when they released the soundtrack in Germany (Das Letzte Einhorn), they redubbed Almathea's lines with a new singer. The songs are actually completely wonderful in this version, and I recommend tracking them down.

Scrumptious!!! I would love to see that show as well, so thank you for posting all these pretty illustrations! I am so in love with your design and marker colouring, makes me feel like a big jerk for only using the computer these days... :/
