Hibernation Time!

Click for GIANT VIEW!

Marle, Crono, Lucca, Robo, Ayla, Frog, Magus, and Schala

There are less than 500 copies left of the Chronotorious CD. If you scroll through the news section on the Bad Dudes site, you might see a thumbnail of the finished piece I did for it.
Order here---> www.baddudesmusic.com
I've been really busy this summer. I started a new job, storyboarding. Which is funny because my old classmates remember how much I sucked at in college. It's alot of fun, alot of work, and I'm learning a ton of new things!
My time right now is pretty much divided between that and helping good friends with two different weddings! (The first was just last weekend, it was lovely! Congrats you two! Soon there will be many Valoda babies.) The next is one is on Halloween, which will also be extremely awesome!
There are also two personal projects I need to focus on, so it might not be until Winter when I can post again. Fanart for now, because it is not related to anything I can't post.
Again, CLICK FOR GIANT VIEW!!!

The following artwork is from "Secret of Mana". It's now downloadable for the Wii. It's the first RPG I ever played, and I still love it. Up to three people can play at the same time. When game magazines started printing screenshots of Chrono Trigger, I thought it was the sequel to Mana, since two of the main characters look really similar to Chrono and Marle.
Also, there was a game magazine that was having an awesome contest back in the day. The prize was an animation cel from the animated commercial. I didn't win, does anybody remember that? Was anyone lucky enough to get one? Here is the commercial in German, it was in English too. Did anybody out there get to work on it?

This was for an Autumn Society show back in August. It has a round frame with little metal flowers.

The rest isn't fanart.

Back in July, I went with friends and had fondue for the first time! Yummy!

Here are two silhouettes of the projects I'm working on. One is a book, and the illustrations need to be finished before winter. Both have been on the blog before, one of them was on accident. Ha ha, hoo boy.....

The other character is from a seven minute animatic I pitched last fall, for a shorts program. I couldn't find work, and my friends were very supportive with me pitching. The characters were from way back in 2005, that I'd been working on for awhile. I didn't expect to make it that far, and even though it didn't make it thru, I'm still going to try to finish it by next summer. My friends have been very helpful, so we are going to try to finish it together.
This was animated on a friend's cintiq just as a test, using Flash. There is some cel shading even, but it didn't help the stiff and clunky animation. :P Making the animatic was good, it helped me get story boarding work, since I had to board out the short myself. So thank you again guys! :) Also old tired Dell computer, didn't know you had it in you!

Also, Skippy is still as helpful as ever.

Oh! Before I forget, the "Transformers Animated: The Allspark Almanac" came out. It is a massive book full of ruff and clean character, prop, and bg designs from the show. There aren't alot of books on specific animated shows in English, and this might be useful for anyone interested in animated television production. Also, Skippy is in it! You can buy the book at Amazon.

Chronotorious!!

I was going to wait until after Comic Con to post this, but pre-orders for Chronotorious started yesterday. There will only be a run of 1000, and I guess over 150 orders have been taken already, so here is an early heads up. What is it?

Here is the info from www.baddudesmusic.com
"15 Delicous Chrono Trigger tracks have been arranged for you. But only if you buy the cd album. When the cd is goin, it's gone forever, along with 5 of the tracks. There will be an iTunes/AmazonMP3 release, but it will only feature 10 tracks, won't include the poster and you'll find yourself scouring ebay for a legit copy. Don't be a jerk-get the CD before all 1,000 are gone."

So if you don't get the CD, I won't think you're a jerk. BUT, there is artwork inside the cd case, which I made. I won't post the finished marker illustration, 'cause that would be kinda jerky for the people who do decide to shell out money for it, but I will post the rough drawing so people can know what to expect. Also, I did an illustration for the back of the poster, that Steph Laberis made with her masterful computer skills. Maximo Lorenzo also did some really awesome artwork for the CD face! Oh yeah, and the hard copy CD is $10!
Thanks to Mustin for letting me be a part of this project. If you don't know what Chrono Trigger is, google it!

Gato is for the back of the poster. This illustration is grey, flipped, and small on the back of the poster, but here is the full color for 15 silver points! Hey, I think Gato is my favorite character from the game!

I have more unused Chrono Trigger art, but that will be posted another time. The next week is going to be insane for me. Sorry! Apologies to Toriyama also, Chrono Trigger introduced me to his art, NOT Dragon Ball Z 9000000000.

Ponehs

Here are some ponies I drew back in 2006 for whatever reason. It is hard to make them not look like Miss Piggy. :(

I had baby Glory. She was stolen when I brought her to school in the 1st grade. At the time she was my favorite pony, and I found out later that my college friends also have stories about how they lost the same pony too. One lost her in a fire, and one was given away without her consent. Glory is a fated pony.

Yay Spike!

I did these yesterday, looking at the old drawings made me want to make more. Sorry the digital one is really weird.

I still have Applejack, Firefly, and Spike. They are hanging out in my bedroom/office/pit of mess.

Found some really awesome videos in the past month! Youtube is being weird and not letting me make a playlist, so here they are separately. Maybe I can fix it later.
The first one is really cool, but my friends think it is really annoying. It's from beatmania IIDX, a rhythm game that you play with your hands. They usually have music videos that play during the level, though they usually aren't fully animated like this. The animation on this is just really well done, the delayed eye blink, the squishy stylized tutus, gahhhh!!!
beatmania IIDX - smooooch・∀・

This is a music video by the band SOUR. They got their fans from around the world to help make it. The song is beautiful, and it's pretty dumbfounding how this was edited together. Check out the rest of the videos on this person's youtube page. They made other equally inspiring videos for SOUR. Like this one. Also this one too!
SOUR '日々の音色 (Hibi no neiro)'

This video uses the tilt-shift technique. Everything in this video is real, no models were used. The edges of the lens is blurred to make objects appear smaller than they are. This song is also really good!
Tilt-Shift: Bathtub IV: Clementine - Washington

Here is the Smooch video one last time. It's so popular, fans are animating on top of it with their favorite characters. Here is the Dissidia version. Hee.

Thanks for all the recent birthday wishes! It was a super fun day, had a burger and some chocolate shake with beer in it at a haunted restaurant, then went and saw early experimental Jim Henson films! Jim Henson was crazy. Crazy good!

Humphrey Happy Birthday!

Today is my Mom's special birthday. She requested Humphrey the Bear. Here he is. I don't know why I didn't give Donald a gun, he should have one. :( Poor Humphrey, he is stupid and unlucky. Happy Birthday Mom! :) Hope Smokey the Bear doesn't come after you!

Humphrey is so bad at being a bear, even Smokey the Bear disapproves of him.
My mom told me a story about when she was a little girl. My grandparents, Uncle, and her, were driving to go camping at a national park (maybe Yellowstone? Don't remember). She was asleep in the back of the truck camper. A bear decided to jump onto the back of the camper and rode along for awhile. Luckily, the bear did not eat them. It was probably Humphrey.

Dumb Dumbo drawing is for the Golden Age Show in Philidelphia this Friday.
Here is the info:

Friday, July 3rd, at 6pm

I like Dumbo. It is one of my favorite movies. I was going to do something completely different for the show, but decided to do Dumbo instead. The piece I was going to turn in I ended up hating. It is below, along with sketches I did while hanging out with my brother during a long appointment weeks ago. There are other things too. It is a Disney Dumbo Dump.

Captain EO Dumbo was drawn way before MJ died. :(

My friend's two and a half year old is obsessed with the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, this is for her.

Some ugly Tinkerbell.

The End.

Happy Father's Day!

Here is something based on a true story. It is really bad. It is not finished.
One time, a long time ago, I got my Dad to play ponies. It only happened once for a reason. He probably doesn't remember this. But I have never been able to look at ponies the same way ever again. Sorry if it doesn't make sense. It's not on youtube for a reason.

Barf!
I actually have some My Little Pony drawings. I should post them eventually. :(

Sparkle and shine

Brain is in two different places right now. Sketched this real quick on the Cintiq. I am not dead, just insanely busy, brains melting out of my ears.
Oh yeah. I've been getting alot of emails (more like spambots, or form letters) asking me to put ads up on my blog to sell things like Ugg boots, art contests that seem a little odd, and other things I am personally not interested in. I link to friends and things I want to share with others, that's all.

Herself the Elf

Anybody remember her? I know Miss Mindy does. We had that discussion a long time ago. Most people don't remember her. I've wanted to draw her for awhile, but I finally did (not as much time on these as I would've liked.) The above image is for The Autumn Society.
Here is the info:

Anyway, Herself the Elf was a line of toys that came out in the early 80's, probably to cash in on the popularity of Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Rose Petal's Place, etc. They were made by Mattel/American Greetings. The dolls must have done horribly because only two of my friends remember them, vaguely, and they are pretty easy to find on ebay. I used to play with them in the dirt, and thought they were neat with their spindly legs, weird hair, and bells on their clothing. They also had little plastic pointed shoes! There was a book that came out, I have/had it somewhere. I may have left it on accident on my last job at CN, so if anyone happens to see it, I'd be really happy to get it back. Hopefully it's just laying in an unopened box somewhere in my apartment. The book consists of screenshots of the pilot Nelvana made, and apparently was a mail away.

Here are some horrible cintiq doodles. I did some on paper, but am too lazy to scan.

The dolls were sooooo popular in the 80's, I was able to get one still in box for super cheap on ebay. She wasn't the only one for sale. She went to dinner with me....

My friends were not impressed. At all. This is how impressed they were:

Whatever. Have some green tea chai, Herself. We don't need them. No we don'ts.....precious.....

If this whole post isn't creepy enough, I was actually on a panel about animation production. Like I would know anything about that. Luckily, Marty, Derrick, and Matt spoke most of the time, since they know that stuff pretty well. Thank you everyone I met at Botcon! Everyone was super nice!

Uhhh....

Oops, almost posted something too early. So there is this instead. It's a monster I drew for a friend. I asked him a question through email, and this was his answer. It's nice being able to see old friends again. It's also fun to leave ugly post-its on their desks when they go home early or are away in the bathroom.

Speaking of monsters, I got interviewed. One here, and a hideous video of horror here.

Hee hee!

I finally got a cintiq, and a dandy iMac recently! Yay! Dell is having photoshop problems though, happened right after I got the new computer, but he should be fixed soon. So no scanner for me this week, but it's nice having the new equipment, planning to put them to good use!
Oh yeah, and April 1st was my 300th post. Whatever that means. Maybe a portal to another dimension will open full of sea cows, or I'll find a treasure chest, or nothing will happen. Probably nothing. K' that's all.

Time for cool videos!

Busy with stuff, but seen some neat videos online that are pretty inspiring!

The first one was found on Matt Youngberg's blog, and he actually has a post that goes into a bit more detail about this video. Matt always seems to find the neatest stuff. Go here to read info about it.

Cencoroll
The following was apparently animated by mostly one person, Atsuya Uki. It is a trailer for a feature that will be coming out later this year.

Wolf and Pig.
A guy uses photos and his environment to make a funny animated video. There is also a pig.

Beaver welcomes drivers to Canada.
Do not worry, he will be ok.

Cellphone Caprice. Animation about cellphones annoying our everyday lives.

Röyksopp 'Happy Up Here' . I'm always late to the party, this song and video is really neato.

Jab Strong Fierce, Street Fighter Tribute Show, Gallery Nucleus opening night.
It was really packed!

k'bye for now.

Hunt for Red Panda

I got the chance to make some artwork for a Street Fighter Tribute Show! There will obviously be lots of neat nerdy art at the show. There will also be a SF 4 game tournament there, so you can pretend you are punching people.

Here is the info!
Jab Strong Fierce (Street Fighter Tribute Show)
April 25, 2009 - May 11, 2009
Gallery Nucleus
Alhambra, CA
Opening Reception / Apr 25, 7:00PM - 11:00PM

I drew lots of Ibuki, 'cause ninjas are always fun to draw. She is finishing a training assignment, she must find at least one red panda. It is her quest, "Hunt for Red Panda."

Some detail.

Super sleepy, going to bed.

Aprul Fuls!!

Why is this April Fool's? Because it was drawn by a fool!

I did not design Sari! Derrick Wyatt did! I got a few emails the past week for requests for Sari, since some people actually like her. Hey I do too! I'll wave my dork flag proudly, whatever. As far as drawing her, I've never drawn this version of her, ughhhhh....... Sari is owned by Hasbro, even though they will probably never make a toy of her or use her for fruit snacks.

Hey! It's Glyph! Derrick told me to put her up here. She was colored by Claire Lenth, who also does fabulous drawings! Bother her so she will actually post them!

These sketches were made while I was unemployed for five billion years. During that time Claire was also unemployed for a bit, so we would go hang out in this wonderful magic kingdom above an Anthropologie store, drinking tea along with Pinkberry yogurt. There was also much manga reading, and many copic and tria markers.

I drew some stuff that wasn't Transformers related then also. That is for another time. Oh! Skippy has a fan page too. Now he is much chubbier.

Glasses Bunny stares into your soul, he knows how you really feel.

Figured this out from Tom Perkins. Did you know you can embed graffiti from Facebook? I didn't cause I'm dumb. This is from a month ago. When I was inbetween jobs. ;)

Click the pony to watch it being born!

On a random note, I just found out my cousin has a bike named "Megatron". I think it's supposed to be named after her sister "Megan". They're both in college.
